Wall Street (1987)

I recently saw the old movie Wall Street (1987).
It is movie by Oliver Stone, a young stock broker Bud Fox (played by Charlie Sheen) who is desperate to succeed. He idolizes Gordon Gekko (played by Michael Douglas) who is a ruthless and legendary Wall Street Player.

The main character is Bud Fox, but Gordon Gekko becomes the ultimate hero, especially with his classic dialogues.

Interestingly, there is a talk of a sequel to Wall Street, called Money Never Sleeps, which will bring back Gordon Gekko.

Here are few of the famous quotes by Gordon Gekko in the movie:

  • The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works.
  • You see that building over there? I bought it three years ago. My first real estate transaction. I sold it ten months later and made $800,000 profit. It was better than sex. At the time it was all the money in the world. Now it's a day's pay.
  • It's not a question of enough, pal. It's a zero sum game, somebody wins, somebody loses. Money itself isn't lost or gained its simple transferred from one perception to another.
